A family farm on St. Joseph Avenue that has been feeding the tri-state since 1940 — through good harvests, hard winters, and one very bad fire.
Who we are
This farm is a family.
Mayse Farm Market is a family owned and operated farm market in Evansville, Indiana. What started as a produce stand at the 4th Street Farmers Market in 1940 is now a working farm, a market, our Down on the Farm Bakery, and — every fall — a place where school buses and minivans line up for wagon rides to the pumpkin patch.
We grow what we sell. Sweet corn comes out of our own fields from the Fourth of July through September, tomatoes and green beans right alongside it, and the greenhouses start the whole year off in spring. What we don’t grow ourselves, we bring in from growers around the tri-state.
Four generations later, the family is still the ones behind the counter.

1940
It starts with a stand
Vance and Minnie Belle Mayse begin selling fresh produce at the 4th Street Farmers Market in Evansville.
1976
The market opens its doors
Paul and Sherrill open Mayse Farm Market on St. Joseph Avenue — the same ground the market stands on today.
2005–06
Rebuilt in five months
After a devastating fire around Christmas 2005, the market was rebuilt just five months later, reopening in May 2006.
Today
The next generation
Four generations later, Mayse is still family-owned, still growing, and still rooted in tradition.
Grown here
Homegrown sweet corn from July 4th through September, plus tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and green beans in their season. Peaches, melons, and berries come from growers around the tri-state.
Baked here
The bakery runs all season long — pies, cookies, yeast bread, fruit bread, turnovers, and brownies. Keep us in mind for the holidays for cookie trays, pies, and other holiday treats!
Fun here
Every fall the farm opens up for wagon rides, the corn maze, the jumping pillow, and the corn slide — plus two-hour field trips for schools.
Christmas 2005
Burned down. Rebuilt in five months.
A fire around Christmas 2005 took the market. Five months later, in May 2006, the doors opened again on the same ground the family has farmed since 1976 — thanks in no small part to a community that showed up for us.
We want to sincerely thank our most loyal customers for your continued business over the years. The corn is still coming in from the field, the bakery is still warm, and the family is still here.
